Josh Ford Motorsports in 2014 | SCHEDULE | DRIVERS | FOCUS

JFM is putting together a 2014 Schedule geared toward competing strongly in both the USAC CRA Sprint Car Series and the West Coast Sprint Car Series.

We will have the skilled wheelman Nic Faas out of Huntington Beach, running the CRA and West Coast races while the talented Marcus Niemela from Rauma, Finland will be running the West Coast and some of the CRA as well. Both of these drivers are very well known and have been racing in some form or another from a very early age. These two drivers are veterans, we have high aspirations for them and are thrilled to have them in our racing family for the 2014 racing year!! @nic_faas | @markusniemela

Josh Ford Motorsports will be in several NON-USAC sanctioned events throughout the year as well as some National races, though we will be focused on the CRA and West Coast Series’. We have not finalized our 2014 Schedule just yet, though our intentions are to run every race in each of these series’ and race for points.

FROM Perris Auto Speedway – www.perrisautospeedway.com

Spectator gates will open at 2:00 PM, qualifying will begin at 6:00 and the first race will take the green flag at 7:15.

“It is going to be a full day of racing and fun for the entire family,” longtime Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said on Monday. “There will be autograph sessions for early arriving fans, a live band and, of course, the best racers in the nation competing for Midget racing’s most prestigious title and a chance to kiss the Agie trophy. We also hope a lot of fans come out early in the day to tailgate in the spectator parking lot.”

There will be two autograph sessions before the race. The first one will be from 2:30 – 3:30 on the front straightaway of the famous Riverside County clay oval featuring all of the drivers and cars entered in this year’s race. From 3:30 to 4:30 there will be another autograph session in the track’s sports bar featuring some of the legends of the Turkey Night Grand Prix including this year’s Grand Marshal Sleepy Tripp, past Turkey Night winners Rick Goudy (1978), Kevin Olsen (1983), Chuck Gurney (1988 & 1989) and Jordan Hermansador (1994).

In the racing portion of the show, the fastest 14 cars in qualifying will be locked in to the 98-lap main event. All of the other cars will contest a pair of qualifying races with the top eight from each of those gaining their tickets into the feature. Those who do not proceed to the main event from qualifying or the qualifying races and who have a provisional, will be eligible to join the main event as well.

Josh Ford Motorsports will have a stellar line up of incredibly talented drivers for the 73rd Running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix!

November 28th, 2013

JFM is happy to announce the drivers we will have for Turkey Night!

Lincoln, Indiana’s Dave Darland will be wheeling the Jimmy May tuned King Racing Products / A&A Precision CNC Machine / Berry Pack Midget Spike/Fontana #73. Dave won the 18th Annual Oval Nationals right here just earlier this month on November 2nd. Darland has had an incredible year, once again… “Anytime Dave Darland is on the racetrack, he is a potential winner,” Perris promoter Don Kazarian said. “He is one of the greatest open wheel drivers of all time and on top of that, he is one of the nicest guys in all of racing. A true winner and a class act all the way.” We are thrilled to have Dave for this race!

Also running for JFM this Turkey Night, will be Kevin Thomas Jr. out of Cullman, Alabama. Thomas, 22, tied champion Bryan Clauson and Darland for the most wins in the USAC National Sprint Car Series with 7 in 2013. Kevin has placed in the top 10 every one of his last 10 races, winning at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN.

And, we will have the “Wild Child” Jac Haudenschild from Wooster, Ohio. Jac has won 3 of his last 10 races, has strong roots in Southern California and has been racing and winning since 1974.
All of us at JFM are excited to have such talent running for us on Turkey Night! We hope to see everyone at the track.

Dave Darland, out of Walton, Indiana, has had a phenomenal year to go along with his incredible career. Dave is coming off a $15,000 payday just last weekend at the Budweiser Oval Nationals. It should go without saying the caliber of this driver, anyone who knows Sprint Car racing knows the seemingly unending list of accomplishments this talented driver has racked up over the years. Some of the Highlights include 3x H.A.R.F. Driver of the year (1994-1997-1999), 1995 Buckeye Auto Racing Fan Club Driver of the Year, 3x Arnie Knepper Memorial award recipient, 15x I.S.W. Feature Winner (puts him #1 on The All Time Indiana Sprint Week win list) and so, so much more over his more than two decade storied career.

This year Dave claimed second behind Bryan Clauson in the National Sprint Car Series, though as mentioned earlier, he won over Clauson just last week in the 2013 Bud Nationals. Last year Dave finished just 5 points behind Clauson for the same series! Darland has placed in the top 10 in nearly every race he has been in and has won at least eight this year alone!

JFM, Jimmy May and the Team, our partners and everyone involved is excited to have Dave Darland wheeling the A&A Precision CNC Machine / King Racing Products / Berry Pack / CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oils #73.

Darland will run both the Midget and the non-winged Sprint classes on all three nights of this national level racing in Peoria this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Come out to the track and support JFM and Dave Darland. Follow the full weekend of racing as it happens! @JFM_Racing

With just 3 races together to date, we have gotten stronger, more confident and have placed better each race.

18th Annual BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS | Perris Auto Speedway | Perris, CA

Thursday - "USAC Grudge Series" USAC Western Sprint Car Series VS USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series.

Last night was the 360 part of the 3 days of the Budweiser Oval Nationals with the ‘Grudge Series’, where 36 of the nation’s best sprint drivers and teams put it all out on the track. It was an exciting night of racing!
Stanbrough and JFMJon Stanbrough and the dialed in JFM King Racing Products / A&A Precision CNC Machine / Berry Pack #73 put in a time of 16.902 for 4th fast to get the evening started. A bit of bad luck on Stanbrough’s heat race, where Jon got into Bruce St. James coming around turn 2 on the third lap and flattened his right front tire. This put him in the back where he stayed for the Heat 4. Stanbrough started on the pole and easily stayed out front through the 10 lap semi, taking the checkered and winning it.

The Feature for the 1st round of the 2013 Budweiser Oval Nationals, Stanbrough started on the inside of the 9th row, 17th. Coming from the back, Jon quickly powered his way up to 12th/13th where we had some yellows around the 3rd through 5th laps. By the 10th lap of the 30 lap feature, Stanbrough was running 9th where he traded the 8th and 9th positions all the way through to the long yellow of the 27th lap where several cars got tangled in turn 1… should have been a red. On the restart, Jon was running 8th and surged to 6th. With 1 lap to go, Clauson taking hold of the race but got up on the rubber and spun into the wall on 3/4 just as Stanbrough was charging 5th and even 4th as they threw the yellow. The race ended there on the 29th lap and they gave Stanbrough 5th. Jon did get the Hard Charger for the 17th – 5th.

Qualified – 4th
Heat 4 – NT (6th)
Semi – WINS (1st)
Feature – 5th (17th)

Tonight we are still here in Perris where the perfect 72 degree is agreeable with JFM and fans alike. This will be the USAC National & CRA Sprint Cars. For the next 2 days we will have Stanbrough wheeling the 410 #73. Excited to get out there and put it all on the track!!

Josh Ford Motorsports has decided not to participate in the winged portion of the Trophy Cup in Tulare.

Evaluating the #73 car after Mitchell flipped leading the 40 lap Main 2, there is too much damage to repair in time for tonight’s and tomorrow night’s race at the Thunderbowl.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause with plans you may have made.

Next Friday and Saturday we will have Jon Stanbrough at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, AZ. Jon is one of the most talented and awarded Sprint Car drivers in the nation!

It’s hard to win upside down. 17 Flips tonight including Mitchell as he was leading the Feature.

Non-Winged Trophy Cup – October 17th, 2013 – Thunderbowl Raceway – Tulare, CA

Matt was one of the lucky ones not taken to the hospital. First it was Araki getting tagged by Nikko, flipping in hot laps, then Bernal flipping in time trials and then Niemela involved in a crash with Foresburg. JFM sincerely wishes all the best and a quick recovery for everyone involved in an incident tonight.

-unofficial-

After killing it with Fast Time of the evening, Mitchell started 6th and went on to take 2nd in his heat race. The format of the race events changed mid-stride, changing the dynamics. In the 20 lap red flag littered Main 1; Matt started 11th and spun out on lap 2. This put him starting in the back where he gained some ground and again spinning out, again starting in the back. Mitchell pushed his way back up to finish 9th.

Now in the Feature race, Mitchell driving the A&A Precision CNC Machine / King Racing Products / Berry Pack / CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oils / JFM #73 started 14th. Mitchell came charging in immediately in the 40 Lap finale, positioning himself in 5th by lap 6 where yet another of the seemingly continuous waving red flags stopped the non-winged sprints cold. On green, he powered his way to 3rd by lap 8, another flag. Matt took control in the 10th lap, out in front leading… when fate took him and the JFM #73 where literally half the field had departed, wheels up.

Full and official results of this treacherous race will be posted tomorrow here and on Josh Ford Motorsports and the JFM Blog.

Tomorrow night we will be right here again at the Thunderbowl for the Southwest Contractors ‘20th Annual Trophy Cup – Winged Sprints’. This will be a first for JFM and we are excited to get out there and not flip so much!!

JFM racing with and without WINGS in the ‘2013 Trophy Cup’ at the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA

2013 Trophy Cup
October 17 – October 19, 2013

2nd ANNUAL Non-Winged Trophy Cup
20th ANNUAL Trophy Cup

For the first time ever, JFM will strap a wing to the #73 car for the Friday and Saturday ‘Winged’ portion of the weekend’s ‘Trophy Cup’ at the Thunderbowl.

Last year, Josh Ford Motorsports came into the Thunderbowl for the first ever ‘Non Winged Trophy Cup’ riding high on a cloud of success through the 2012 racing season. We were running some incredible talent and Jimmy May, winner of the ‘2012 Mechanic of the Year’, Mikey Evans and the JFM team consistently put solid and lightning fast cars on the track to compete with the best the west has to offer!

Almost There!
Drivers like Ryan Bernal, Kyle Larson, Shane Golobic, Kory Cruseman and Ronnie Gardner kept JFM on the podium all year long! In 2012, first non-winged Trophy Cup at the Thunderbowl, Ryan Bernal guided the Josh Ford Motorsports A&A Precision CNC Machine / King Racing Products / Berry Pack #73 to WIN it all!! Bernal qualified 1st, won his heat race, claimed 2nd (10th) in the 30 lap Feature and 2nd (20th) in the 50 lap Feature. This gave Bernal and JFM the WIN for the ‘Non-Winged’ Sprints!

This year our winning aspirations have not waned in the slightest. JFM will run with the accomplished and skilled Matt Mitchell for the ‘Non-Winged’ October 17th and ‘Winged’ October 18th and 19th running of the ‘Trophy Cup’!

As of 9-30-13 there are 39 ‘Non-Winged’ and over 90 ‘Winged’ cars registered for the 2013 Trophy Cup. This is a very talented field, some of the most prolific drivers and race teams in the nation. This is an incredibly lucrative event with over $150,000 in Total Payout. Who wouldn't want to be a part of this fantastic and exciting 3 day extravaganza?

Weekend Wrap Up - West Coat Sprint Cars - Hanford 9-20-13 - Tulare 9-21-13 - Matt Mitchell

The racing gods did not shine down on JFM this weekend in Hanford or Tulare. Matt Mitchell was doing his thing as always, Jimmy May had the #73 fast, just was not in the stars for us...

USAC WEST COAST SPRINT CAR - KINGS SPEEDWAY - HANFORD, CA - 9-20-13

Coming into tonight’s running of the 6th Annual ‘Jim Turner Memorial’ everything was looking about as good as it could. Jimmy May had the JFM King Racing Products A&A Precision CNC Machine Berry Pack #73 dialed in and fast. We had the talented Matt Mitchell running for us and he did not disappoint. Mitchell was third quick tonight with a time of 15.807 that put him to start 3rd in Heat 3. Matt came up strong in his Heat race to take the WIN which put him in the 8 lap Dash starting 6th. Again coming from behind he powered his way up to claim 3rd in the Dash which gave him a starting spot on the inside of the second row.

Now the feature race Mitchell fell back a spot from the gate but held onto 4th for a good part of the race through several Yellow Flags. By lap 20 Matt was in front of Netto holding 3rd and coming around laps 1 and 2 they got together and it took Mitchell out and to the back on the restart. Hobbling with a low left rear that was losing air quickly, he pulled off on the 23rd lap. This is Sprint Car racing.

Qualified: 3rd FORD-15.807
THIRD HEAT: (10 laps) 1st
DASH: (6 laps) 3rd
FEATURE: (30 laps) 16th DNF

USAC WEST COAST SPRINT CAR – THUNDERBOWL RACEWAY - TULARE, CA - 9-21-13 – ‘HARRY TALBOT MEMORIAL’

Matt Mitchell running the JFM King Racing Products A&A Precision CNC Machine Berry Pack #73 tonight here at the Thunderbowl, again, was going along as well as we could have scripted it. Mitchell was the fastest in qualifying, came from 6th to 3rd in his heat race, went from 8th to 5th in the Dash positioning him well for the main Sprint event of the evening in Tulare.

Starting on the inside of the 3rd row for the Feature, things were looking pretty optimistic. Then, after the 2 front runners tangled in the first turn, the race had a full restart putting Mitchell starting 3rd! Forward now to lap 5 where Mitchell had pulled into 2nd right behind the leader and trying to pass he got into the wall and off the track completely. All or nothing sent Matt to the back and this made getting back to front a steep uphill battle. This was lap 5, by lap 10 he had powered his way up to 12th with another yellow. Now in lap 15 with another yellow, Mitchell had the #73 car up to 9th. Now with the track taking on all that rubber, passing was getting tough. Another Yellow at lap 29 has Matt in 8th and he finishes in 7th.

Qualified: 1st FORD-15.639
FIRST HEAT: (10 laps) 3rd
DASH: (6 laps) 5th
FEATURE: (30 laps) 7th

Ryan WINS his first CRA of the season at Santa Maria Speedway!! Takes 5th at Ocean Speedway.

Ryan takes it to the field in Santa Maria, Wins IT!!

USAC CRA 410 - Santa Maria Speedway - Santa Maria, CA
Ryan Bernal out of Hollister, CA driving the King Racing Products / A&A Precision CNC Machine / Berry Pack #73 of Josh Ford Motorsports started the evening running fast and never let up. Crew chief Jimmy May had the car dialed in. Ryan was fast in qualifying with a 13.989. For the 8 lap first heat Bernal started 6th and finished 3rd. Going into the main we knew our chances were good with the car running fast, Ryan driving like a vet and starting on the outside of the third row. Ryan powered his way up to pass Gardner and Mitchell about the 13 laps remaining and took it all the way to the checkered flag!

This is Ryan's first CRA win of the season. He lead laps 19-30 and won the Keizer Wheels / Racing Optics Hard Charger coming from 6th to 1st.

L Jennings 8-11-13 - After heartbreak the previous night at Watsonville, Hollister’s Ryan Bernal won the 30-lap feature at Santa Maria Speedway -

Ryan Bernal takes 5th again at Ocean Speedway!

USAC CRA 410 / Western Classic - Ocean Speedway - Watsonville, CA – 8-9-13

On June 14 this year, Ryan wheeled his way to a 5th place finish here in Watsonville. Tonight, Bernal, driving for Josh Ford Motorsports in the King Racing Products / A&A Precision CNC Machine / Berry Pack #73 again claimed 5th! Jimmy May and the team had the car dialed in. Bernal out of Hollister, CA was 2nd fast and started Heat 2 in 6th. In the ten lap second heat, Ryan took 2nd! This put him starting 5th in the main. Damion Gardner was upside down early on and Ryan pushed his way up to second where he stayed for most of the first half of the 30 lap feature. By lap 17 Bernal was out in front of the field running as fast and hard as he was all night. He held on to the lead through the 28th lap and after the last of several cautions for the evening, Bernal fell back some and claimed 5th just as he did in June.

Ryan takes 5th in Hanford - August 3, 2013

Ryan Bernal 2013

USAC West Coast Sprint - Kings Speedway - Hanford, CA

We had a fresh, dyno’d in motor going into Hanford for a the 6th annual “Jim Evett Memorial”. Bernal, Jimmy and ‘The Team’ was feeling pretty optimistic.

We blew the motor in qualifying, not getting a time, starting in the back of the field for the Heat and the Main. In the short 10 laps, running the backup Josh Ford Motorsports King Racing Products / A&A Precision CNC Machine / Berry Pack #73 in Heat 2, Bernal powered his way up to take 4th in the heat.

Starting in the back, outside 11th row, for the 30 lap Feature that was plagued with caution flags, Bernal out of Hollister gradually, persistently gained on the field. Driving his way up to 8th, flattening the left rear tire and having to start 12th after the red flag caution on the 11th lap did not stop Ryan. Then with just 6 laps to go after spinning out and again starting in the back, Bernal powered his way to a 6th place finish.

After official scoring came in, Ryan claims 5th for the “Jim Evett Memorial”.
